BIOGRAPHY

Bert van Engel, my stage name, was born out of a play on words based on my birth name. Many people believe I’m from Salzburg, but I was born and raised in Frankfurt am Main. After high school, I came to Salzburg to study conducting at the University of Music and Performing Arts. My mother was to determined to turn me into a pianist, but I was successfully able to fend off her attempts and create my own path. After graduation, I worked for three years as an assistant director and répétiteur (= piano accompanist) for the Salzburg State Theatre. Followed by half a season at the Theatre in Erfurt – also as a répétiteur – I returned to Salzburg.

In 2015, I branched out into electronic music and composed several exciting house productions, which I have linked here. But since I always had a strong attraction to the stage, that’s how I ultimately ended up becoming a DJ. With solid training from DJ Sound Austria (at the time based in Linz), turntables have now become my second instrument, after piano, which alwys will be my great love.
